6 Savvy Ways to Stay Healthy on Holiday

You might think that going on holiday is all about eating ice cream, drinking wine and laying on the beach all day. Although you should allow yourself to rest and recuperate during your time off, you also need to remain somewhat healthy. When you make a conscious effort to maintain your fitness, the rest of your health will benefit too. It’s not about waking up at 6am every morning and slaving away at the gym; there are a number of other ways to stay healthy whilst you’re away too.

1.Try A New Sport

You don’t have to hit the gym hard on your next holiday, but you could try a new sport. There is no doubt that the connection between extreme sports and good mental health is incredibly strong. When you undertake a brand new activity your mental health will actually be rewarded too. From jet skiing to paragliding, you could tick something off your bucket list and keep your health in check.

2. Go For a Walk on the Beach

A brisk walk on the beach will work wonders for your health. Not only is sand much harder to walk on, but the sea air is a guaranteed mood booster too. If you have time, you could also grab a quick game of beach volleyball whilst you’re there as well!

3. Take Less Taxis

Start getting used to walking more when you’re on holiday; you don’t need to take taxis everywhere you go. Soak in the sights and get your bearings by going on long explorative walks with your family.

4. Eat Local and Fresh Produce

Now that you know how to get plenty of exercise into your holiday, you also need to make sure you’re eating well too. Fill your plates with local and fresh produce that give you plenty of energy. Exotic salads, oily fish and lean protein are the best ways to keep your health on track whilst you’re away.

5. Drink Bottled Water

If you’re heading to a hot country then it is so important to stay hydrated every single day. Even if you think you can drink the tap water where you’re staying, it is best to stick to bottled just in case. Bottled water will give you a lower chance of catching a stomach bug whilst you’re on holiday.

6. Stay Safe on the Plane

You don’t want to get sick before your vacation even begins, so it’s important to practice good hygiene on the plane journey. Make sure you take hand sanitiser with you in your hand luggage; even if you wash your hands after going to the bathroom, make sure you hand gel too. Another great hack for on the plane is to dab a little tea tree oil onto your wrists to help stave off any potential bacteria in the air.

When you practice some of the ideas mentioned above, you will notice a huge shift in your energy levels whilst you’re on holiday. You don’t want to risk getting sick or feeling sluggish whilst you’re enjoying a vacation, so why not try them out for yourself?
