I know many people that have visited Turkey, yet none have ever spoken of Cappadocia. Most people will book a nice hotel on an all-inclusive basis and barely see the country they are visiting. When I pictured Turkey I thought of beaches and cocktails rather than cave hotels and rocks in the shape of genitalia!
Cappadocia is home to one of the most spectacularly unique landscapes I have ever seen, yet prior to researching the country I had never heard of it! With an abundance of cave hotels, underground labyrinths and unusually shaped rocks there are surprises around every corner.
Many of the hotels are built into the rocks in traditional fashion allowing for a really unusual stay. I stayed in a monastery cave hotel which was slightly creepy (for more details see this post) but seriously cool!
I spent 3 days exploring the incredible scenery, climbing rocks in the shape of willies and discovering the depths of the amazing underground cities that once would have held up to 50,000 people!
I really don’t think that words do this destination enough justice… so here is a selection of my favourite photos-enjoy!
Planning a trip to Turkey? Cappadocia is a must see!
